I guess that the higher your expectations are, the greater your disappointment can become. I just got back from a hot week in Portugal, and while the country had some great scenery to show for itself, I was totally appalled by the inhabitants’ aggressive behavior most notable on the road. I have driven extensively in the U.K., the U.S.A., France, Italy, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Germany, and of course in Austria, but have never witnessed nearly as many crazy stunts on the road as I have in Portugal. Just brutal and irresponsible stuff, and it was only luck that noone got hurt.
I could go on and on ranting about this – I found it utterly unsettling. But let me come to the more positive aspects of the trip, which I tried to capture with a few photos. I was particulary fond of the ocean, the waves, the fantastic cliffs, and the lemmings (ok, just kidding, no lemmings, but there could and should have been – maybe I arrived too late).
(This video is quite noisy, which is due to that day’s very strong winds. So please lower the volume before starting the clip.)
And when it comes to falling off the cliff – both metaphorically and literally -, this accidentally taken photo is quite telling for my experience in Portugal:
